SANNA KANNISTO

Sanna Kannisto
(b. 1974, Hämeenlinna)
Currently based: Helsinki

Sanna Kannisto on valokuvannut luonnon lajien moninaisuutta kahdenkymmenen vuoden ajan.

Vuonna 2015 Sanna Kannisto sai Valokuvataiteen valtionpalkinnon. Taiteilijan teoksia löytyy useasta merkittävästä museokokoelmasta kuten Centre Pompidou – Musée National d’Art Moderne, Pariisi, Ranska; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Ranska; Fotomuseum Winterthur, Sveitsi; Nykytaiteen museo Kiasma, Helsinki.

Sanna Kannisto is an internationally renowned photographic artist who has developed a very unique style of visual expression. Her works combine nature photography, key issues of photographic art and science-based ways of displaying nature.

Kannisto collaborates closely with naturalists, using her pictures to contemplate the interfaces between art and science. She investigates not only the characteristics of the different species, but also the codes of scientific visualization. Her own position as an agent and researcher, and her experience, are also under scrutiny. The photographic studio serves both as a laboratory and as the stage around which the photographic process is performed.

The 2015 State Prize for Photographic Art was awarded to Sanna Kannisto. The artist´s work can be found in several important museum collections, including: the Centre Pompidou – Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland; Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki.
