Olen dokumentaariseen kerrontaan keskittynyt valokuvaaja. Keskeinen, koko tuotantoni läpäisevä, aihepiiri on yksilön sijoittuminen oman aikansa historiaan. Muita sisällöllisiä teemoja ovat ulkopuolisuus, yhteiskunnan asettamat odotukset ja epäonnistuminen.

Ajattelen ajan muokkaavan kuvani valmiiksi. Siksi teen teoksia pitkään, ja kuvaan useaa eri projektia samanaikaisesti. Esimerkiksi:

My Weather Diary 2001–2051 kuvissa yhdistän henkilökohtaisen elämäni ja maailman politiikkaan. Ajan myötä teos on rinnastanut ihmissuhdeongelmat ja terrori-iskut, lapsen kasvattamisen ja kansanmurhan, kahvin tuoksun ja globaalin talouden. Kuvasarja valmistuu elämän ohessa, ilman, että sen tekemiseen kuluisi aikaa ja energiaa.

”We are the revolution” after Joseph Beuys 2006– on teos, jossa kävelen 1900–luvun poliittisilla murhapaikoilla yhtä monta askelta kuin on ks. tragediassa kuollut ihmisiä. Teos kuvaa ihmisen vääjäämätöntä yksinäisyyttä suurten tapahtumien edessä. Tällä hetkellä kävelen Stalinin vainon uhreja Venäjällä. Yhden ihmisen elinikä voi olla liian lyhyt saattaa teos loppuun.

Uusin työni sai alkunsa, kun ostin kuolleen naisen paperijäämistön kirpputorilta. ‘Framing the World. An Essay on the Organisation of Experience’ 2009-2020 tallentaa anonyymien ihmisten elämää- ja tunteita ympäri maailmaa. Aalto Yliopistossa teen jatko-opintoja, jossa tutkin suomalaisten valokuvaajien henkilöohjauksen käytäntöjä. Peilaan niitä teatteritaiteen näyttelijäohjauksen laajaan teorettiseen kenttään.

I am a photographer focusing on narrative documentary. Through out the years, one main thread of subject matter in my work has been; how a subject relates to the historical time frame they are part of. My other themes are about feeling like an outsider, the expectations society puts upon us, and failure.

I feel time will complete my work. That is why my projects are made over a long span of time and I work on many different projects simultaneously. For example:

In My Weather Diary 2001–2051 I combine personal with political events around the world. Over time, the work has been put coupled: relationship struggles with terror attacks, raising a child with genocide, the smell of coffee with global economics. The series is coming along like a side of life, without having to put a lot of time or energy in it.

”We are the revolution” after Joseph Beuys 2006 is a work where I walk in places where political homicides have taken place, I take as many steps as there were people that died in the sad tragedies. The work is about the inevitable loneliness of a person in the face of such events. At the moment I’m walking through the victims of the Stalin regime era. Probably the lifespan of one person is too short to finish such work.

My newest work began after I bought the remaining papers of a deceased woman from a flea market. ‘Framing the World. An Essay on the Organisation of Experience’ 2009-2020 narrates the life and the feelings of anonymous persons around the world.

I am a doctoral student in the Aalto University. The subject of my study is on the ways of directing actors in photographs. I counter those to the theories of the directing actors in the theater.
