Valokuvaaja Esa Ylijaasko on alunperin kotoisin Keminmaalta. Valmistuttuaan valokuvaajaksi Jyväskylästä hän aloitti sanomalehtikuvaajana suomalaisille ja chileläisille sanomalehdille.
Sittemmin hän on keskittynyt henkilökohtaisen, syväluotaavan dokumenttivalokuvaprojektin toteutukseen Syyrian sisällissodan uhreista.
Ylijaaskon kuvia on julkaisseet muun muassa The New York Times, VICE, Suomen Kuvalehti ja Hufvudstadsbladet. Hän voitti Magnum Photos Showcasen marraskuussa 2012, Gomma Awardsin vuonna 2016 ja Carina Appel Awardsin vuonna 2017.
Ylijaasko on valittu VII (www.viiphoto.com) mentor-ohjelmaan.
Esa Ylijaasko is an artist originally from the small northern town of Keminmaa, Finland. After graduating from the Jyväskylä College of Arts he started working for newspapers in Finland and Chile.
Esa has concentrated on a personal, in-depth documentary project on the victims of the Syrian Civil War.
His images can be found in publications like The New York Times, VICE, Suomen Kuvalehti and Hufvudstadsbladet.
He won the Magnum Photos Showcase in November 2012, Gomma Grant 2016 and the Carina Appel Award 2017.
He is part of the VII (www.viiphoto.com) mentor program.
